About me

My name is Gareth Rhodes and more than anything in the world, I love film. Second to my love of film is engaging with others and having film-related discussion. If you like, or don’t like what I have to say about a film, I want to hear from you. Difference of opinion is fascinating and educational, so please and with respect, feel free to leave your comments on my page.

Thank you very much. I have yet to branch out of my own blog, and would relish the opportunity. I really like the way your page straddles the genres. There’s plenty of interesting perspectives, covering not just recent stuff, but older, cult films too. It would be my pleasure to contribute.

I’m a fan of how dedicated your blog is to film, and the fact that you review new and old works. What a great way for me to discover new movies. Spoiler free as well; how considerate. I’ll be following and visiting!

  6. nufafitc says:

Thanks for following my blog and I hope we can have some great movie discussions as well ;). Browsed a bit through your reviews and there definitely some movies I can share my opinions on. Too many to review actually, but keep up the good work. Looking forward to everything new and old. Discussing these is also nice, as long as it doesn’t get too heated a discussion;).

    • garethrhodes says:

Thank you so much for stopping by. It’s great to meet a new movie fan. I’m always happy to discuss anything film-related. It’s kind of my passion. Oh, and don’t worry, I’m always very respectful of peoples opinions. I think we have to embrace alternative views to learn.

      • nufafitc says:

Couldn’t agree more, so let’s have some fun/serious discussions. Did you go to any film festivals? That’s where I usually found some great people to talk to.

Thank you too. Likewise, it’s great to meet you. I really enjoying the community feel with these blogs. Lots of writers all respectfully sharing their views and encouraging each other. It’s very cool. I’ll be keeping a close eye on your blog for any new uploads.

King Théoden said it best with, “And so it begins.”

Except that we’re not at war.

Nor is either of us a special breed of Orc.

Ah, hell. I guess the metaphor doesn’t stand close examination. 🙂

    • garethrhodes says:

Evelyn, that’s so kind of you. I’m truly grateful to get that kind of recognition from a fellow blogger. This old writing lark can be a lonely business, so it’s doubly gratifying to have someone show their appreciation. Many, many thanks.

  13. also want to say thanks for following my blog, and I’m loving yours so far! I love your organized approach, and that you review movies old and new. I’m attempting to do the same, and from looking at a few of your posts and lists, we’ve got pretty similar taste in film! anyways, looking forward to reading more of your stuff and discussing films with you! cheers!

    • garethrhodes says:

Thank you so very much, Joel. Yes, I’m most definitely not one of those pages that just reviews the recent stuff – there’s plenty of those to go around. My aim is simply to celebrate my love for film by writing about and studying films from all genres and era’s. I think for every year that there have been movies, there have been a handful of truly great ones and I’m still discovering many of them. Great to meet you on here!

  14. Carlos C. says:

    Hey Gareth,

If you ever want to contribute to my other site, Cinesthesia (http://cinesthesia.net/), let me know. In contrast to Indigo, the reviews are longer and more thought out. They also need to be “genre” movies, like sci-fi, mystery, horror, etc.

    Regards,

    Carlos

Thanks for following bob-the-movie-man.com Gareth. I am envious about how many comments you get on your reviews – – I barely get a single one… what’s the secret?!

    • garethrhodes says:

It’s a pleasure to follow your page – I’ll keep a check on what’s new. Regarding comments – I suppose it’s just a case of keeping doing what you do, meeting others who have similar interests and engaging with the community.

  18. After having long abandoned my own film review blog, I logged in to see a comment you left about six months ago, and I feel that you should be made aware of the fact that, for some reason, that comment inspired me to begin reviewing again after nearly 8 months of being too lazy and busy to do so again.

So thank you for the comment – six months later – because for some reason, it has become responsible for my renewed attempt at reviews.

    • garethrhodes says:

Wow! Thank you for letting me know that I helped ease you back into things. That’s a huge compliment that I don’t take lightly. Enjoy your re-emergence and I’ll keep an eye on your latest blogs. 🙂

Hello Laura, for reasons that have more to do with the shortcomings of this site than my ignorance, I have only just read your message from February 2016. Had I read it then, I would have jumped at the chance to span out and begin writing for you. Are there any new opportunities arising?

  27. Hello Gareth and thank you for popping onto my planet and the follow – so appreciated. I found your review on Maléma absolutely brilliant; it has stirred me to get the movie, thank you.
I am impressed with your site, uncomplicated but dynamic and certainly pulls one into the excitement of movies.
I’ve been at blogging for 13 months now and from day one, have enjoyed every moment of it.
My ethos is ‘encouragement’ and this embraces, short stories, poems, book, restaurant and just a couple of film reviews.
For me, the journey around the site of a professional was both encouraging, stimulating and so enjoyable.
Kudos to you Gareth and keep up the good work.

  28. David Hughes says:

I absolutely agree, Gareth. I think many people have lost sight of the fact that one of the most rewarding things about viewing and talking about movies is trying to understand why other people got something out of a work that you didn’t or vice versa. Those conversations are always interesting and worthwhile, as long as you enter them in an open way – not with the didactic approach which all too many have, which is simply the desire to prove yourself right and others wrong!

    • garethrhodes says:

It’s always a delight to meet a likeminded person. Often, I’m bored of what my own opinion is, and I’m happy to engage in a conversation about what things mean to other people. You’ll always be welcome on my blog and I’m glad to be following yours.
